The first deadly earthquake was one in February in Turkey, Kahramanmaraş. This earthquake was a magnitude of 7.8 and killed 59,259 people. The next deadly earthquake was in Morocco. It killed 2960 people and this was a 6.8 magnitude.
Now we are going to dig into the earthquake in Turkey, Kahramanmaraş. According to semafor.com “a 7.8-magnitude quake is equivalent to the explosive energy created by the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Now let’s take a look at the damage to the city, because an earthquake that powerful does a lot of damage. This earthquake knocked down about 61,722 buildings that were demolished. This was a pretty bad earthquake but let’s see how it is compared to other ones in the world. A normal earthquake is usually below 7 magnitude. 7.8 is pretty close to that also considering it killed 58,000 people, but this usually happens when they strike a big town/city unexpectedly.
