Skinner Interviews…Jennelle May

Jacob: What’s your name?

 May: Jennelle May

Jacob: Do you like teaching at Skinner?

May :I do! It’s my 15th year here!

Jacob: What do you like about Skinner?

May: I like the staff, the kids and the community. I especially like how much the staff cares about kids.

Jacob: What’s your history of teaching? Why did you start teaching?

May: I knew I wanted to be a teacher at a young age, I thought I wanted to teach elementary school, but, when I did my student teaching at a highschool, I liked it alot. However, I was in my early twenties and only a few years older than some of the students. So, I chose middle school, and never left. This is my 21st year of teaching.

Jacob: What year did you start teaching?

May: 2002

Jacob: How old were you when you started teaching?

May: 22

Jacob: Why did you pick Skinner Middle School?

May: I wanted to stay in DPS (Denver Public Schools)

and the principal was the same principal I had at my first school I taught at.

Jacob: What is your favorite part about Skinner?

May: Spending my days with AMAZING kids, who teach me a lot. And laughing together.

Jacob: What do you think they need to change about Skinner?

May: I wish we had a more diverse staff.

(Diverse: including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.)

Jacob: If there was a request that you could give for the way you teach or your classroom, what would you ask?

May: I wish I had less paper work to do. And the means to take my classes on field trips.
